What is Subversion?

Subversion is an open-source version control system, created as a successor of CVS and improving CVS. It is distributed under an Apache/BSD-style license. It fixes some of the CVS flaws such as keeping the full revision history when renaming, copying and removing files and introduces some new features like atomic commits, attaching custom meta-data to files and directories.
